person you’re giving it to. God wants the Israelites to offer themselves by obeying and serving Him. The Lord is more pleased with obedience than with “burnt offerings” (1 Samuel 15:22–23). When a faithful Israelite brings an animal near, he is saying that he will serve and obey the Lord.
